Could the name have been James Dillard Hatchett? The obit below is from July of 1998...
James Hatchett Sr.
James Dillard Hatchett Sr., 66, of Huntsville died Friday at a local hospital. The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Larry G. Bishop and the Rev. Ricky Mitchell officiating.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Avis W. Hatchett; two daughters, Deborah A. Hatchett and Virginia ''Ginger Bordurant, both of Lynchburg, Tenn.; two sons, James D. Hatchett Jr. of Pulaski, Tenn., and Brian Keith Hatchett of Huntsville; one brother, O.J. Hatchett, of Huntsville; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Memorial donations may be made to Five Points Baptist Church, 801 Beirne Ave., Huntsville 35801.
He was born 1/5/1932 and died 7/3/1998 at 66 yrs old. He would have been going on 83 today.
Huntsville is in Madison county and he seemed to belong to a baptist church...

One observation. If your cousin's father was the one born in 1932 and he became a father as young as age 16, that would make his son born in 1948 = age 66-67 and not quite in the age range of 70's to 80's. But still maybe a possibility for you.
