It also says Anthony was predeceased by Vernon and since Vernon passed away in 1985 (I believe it was) then that Vernon would have to be the Op's grandfather if it is the same family structure.

The Op can consider contacting the "dentist" who is named as the grandson in Anthony's obit. The grandson would be her father's cousin and a phone call or letter could verify if Vernon P. is his cousin.
