I know Liz or Beth, but I am wondering if in the 'old days' (like the 1950's) Betty was short for Elizabeth? Thanks for your help.

Yep, from time to time you would find an Elizabeth called Betty. It wasn't as common as Beth or Liz. A "Betty" was usually named that at birth. I am thinking that as a nickname it would go back much futher than the 1950.

Thank you all SOOOO MUCH!!!!!!

I have a post below looking for DH's half brother named Joel.
I have done some searching and I definitely found a marriage license between Earl Lewis and 'Betty' Davis in North Carolina. I can now do some searching for Joel Davis (unless he was adopted by a stepfather)!!
