i am tring to find my father. i don't have much to go on other then he lived in albany, ga. drove a taxi in 1956 or 57, he went to jail for 2 yrs. his name is johnny raburn, raybun, raborn. not sure how the last name is spelled. i was born in july 1956. i know he was married at the time & had 3 or 4 other kids.

The John T. Rayburn above is listed in the SS Death Index. Born June 12, 1932 and died July 4 1997 in Calhoun. SS card was issued in Tennessee. Serecea, did you ever hear anything about him being originally from Tennessee?

The name is showing up as Rev John Rayburn from Gainsville, GA, presiding over funerals of family members in some Albany GA obituaries.( I can print them if Serecea thinks she would recognize family member names. )

i don't know anything about my father. i'm not even sure if the last name is spelled right. all i do know is that he lived in albany, ga. & he drove a taxi for albany or sylvester, ga. in 1956 or 57. i was born in july 56. my mother was 14 & she really didn't know anything about him. my grandmother & grandfather had told me that he was married & had 3 children & one on the way when he got my mom preg. she was 13 at the time. from what i under stand my grandmother took him to court & he spent 2 yrs. in prison. after that is when he come back and was driving a taxi.

Well, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure you've thought out the pros and cons of finding him and I hope it works out in a way that brings you peace.

You should be able to find him through his Georgia criminal record. Since you aren't sure of the name, I wouldn't advise you to spend money on an online computer-generated criminal background search. You need a live person to search the crim files using different variations of the names, like we did here when we searched the public address files. If you wanted to go to a private investigator or an attorney, I think they could quickly find his case on Lexis or Westlaw. I'll google around and see if I can find any free access to the Georgia court system or criminal records. Albany newspaper archives would be another place to look.
