My grandmother's name was Odessa Reed, she may be Odessa Holloway. She may be 87 now, I would love to find out if she is still living. If there is anyone who knew Reed's or Barnes' from Yazoo MS from the 1930's on I would love to hear from you.
Wild, thank you so much. So far I have been on a regular basis to Mississippi Archives to search census records, marriage, death, and birth certificates. I could search County property indexes...that is something I'd not thoought of. It's likely they were not voting in Mississippi at that time but it's worth a looksee. It's a long uphill battle, but I think it will be fruitful, it already has, as I now know names of many of her relatives. It was just naive to think it could be done quickly. My lead runs cold with her living in New Orleans a few years before Katrina. I will be searching next to exclude (hopefully) death record for her. If you ponder anything more please don't hesitate, I like great minds. Thanks
I didn't want to be the one to suggest death records. Local Probate Court records if there was a will. Cemeteries and burial grounds also keep records archives of their "residents." If she, or her husband, was a veteran there would be a veteran's record.
Your local Social Security office might help you, in person, if she had a check sent anywhere.
The Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act were more than 40 years ago, maybe they were registered locally.
I don't have experience with MS Archives, but here in Massachusetts, the state's records of births, deaths, marriages aren't always consistent with local records, use different forms, and are copied from local records. Usually, local records are a better source.
MS and LA State Census, and US Census. Good luck.
