I started looking for my older brother when I was released from prison in 2004. It wasn't until I finally found the City-data Forum that I was able to make any progress.
At first, I had a hard time learning the ropes of how the site works. But there were many people who were willing to tell me what to search for and how to word my searches.
City_data bloggers are cool! With just a little bit of information from me, like the city we lived in and my brother's name and age and people started sending me newspaper articles and other information.
I found my Brother through a newspaper article that was written about his Son, Nicho, who was fatally stabbed in a San Diego park in 2005. After I found out that the family was still in San Diego, eveything seemed to fall in place. My wife and I made reservations for a fall reunion in California.
I was able to talk to Tony, my brother, several times. I hadn't seen him in almost 30 years! I learned about his son and how he died. I found out that he was still married to the same woman and they were getting ready to celebrate their 32nd anniversary.
Funny how things work out. Shortly before we were to go on vacation to San Diego and meet the rest of the family, I found out that my brother had died.
My brother had been fighting alchoholism for many years and on a friday evening in early september he lost that fight.
Even though I never got to see him alive again, I did get to talk to him several times and share news about our families and our lives. I have reconnected with his wife and children and we were able to attend his funeral service and share memories with all his friends in California.
I especially want to thank Susan13202 for all her help. She gave me so much.
Larry
