I came from England to Danville, IL in 1968, I returned to England with my parents in 1970. I would like to trace school friends who may remember me. I was Valerie (Val) Pownall then and always referred to "as the little English girl." I would like to find anyone who remembers me from Washington Grade School. I would love to find a family friend Candi Strako (sorry if this is spelled incorrectly - it was a long time ago!!) she had a brother Tim, mom Elaine and dad Mike (who sadly passed away 1969-70???) who may remember me. Mike worked with my dad Eric at the Modern Machine Shop, 123 North Hazel Street. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Default Please try the local online Danville "newspaper"!

Hello hollibobs,

I just now stumbled across this obscure little forum with your post from many weeks ago! I want to let you know that there is an online "Guestbook" connected to the current Danville IL newspaper, the Danville Commercial News, (links below) (sometimes facetiously referred to as the "Comical News" with its many typos and provincial concerns) which has quite a wide local readership. It may be a better place to repeat your post, or even strike up a "conversation" with receptive Danvillians who would find your long-ago view of the place interesting.

You may want to follow the "dialogue" there first, as it often reflects how Danville has changed mightily (read: diminished!?) over the decades since your absence. Still, it would be wonderful if you could connect with any of your childhood chums there. Best of luck to you!

For the online newspaper:

The Commercial-News, Danville, IL - Homepage

or its online chatty Guestbook:

The Commercial-News (Danville, Ill.) (http://www2.commercial-news.com/guestbook/ - broken link)

Hi Chikinhed

Yes I would love for you to ask Candis first off if she remembers me! If she does then I can be contacted at valhollings@live.com. Sorry it has been so long since my reply, we have moved from England to Spain and things were just a little up in the air for a while!

Many thanks

Val
