Keep in mind that many men would wonder why you bothered finding him. They sometimes think that the "child" is really someone that's looking for easy money. If I were him, I would demand a paternity test unless I recognised the mother from the picure.

I sure hope that if he is married that his wife is the understanding sort.

I didn't call him like I said I would, and he hasn't called me back either.

I really hope all this works out for you! Good luck! I didn't meet my dad until I was 12 and that was weird enough I could hardly imagine what you are going through, but I hope it turns out better for you....

update: Received my pictures and a typed rejection letter in the mail from 'biological' today that reads,

January 3, 2010

Dear (My name),

After consideration of all the information you have provided regarding your search for your biological father, I feel I have no more information, nor can I be of any further help in your search. May God bless you and your loving family.

Sincerely,
(his name)

The letter was so impersonal and heartless, everything was typed including my address. He didn't even sign his name, it was typed. Well, I wanted to know the truth and sometimes it isn't so kind.

My search is finally over. I have closure even though it wasn't the closure I expected.

Thank you all for your advice!!!!

Thanks for the hug!!!

I do not have a DNA test to prove it, but I'm more than 98% sure it's him.
Name (Check).....His name is not that common.
Place of birth (check)
Branch of Military (check)
Military Base he was stationed at in 1968 (Check)
Age (check)
Was he here the same time I was conceived (Check)

Too many pieces of the puzzle point to him. It's him. I can tell in his phone conversations that it was him. I wish that it wasn't him, because it hurts to know that my DNA is made up of someone so heartless.

Besides, he took over two weeks to tell me. If it wasn't him, he would have denied it (via phone) as soon as he received my letter; also, why a typed letter with no handwriting? ( displays secrecy). No stranger would go through the trouble of typing your name and address, cut it out, and then paste it to the envelope. That takes too much time. It hurts to know that I'm not worthy of seeing his signature.

When I received the letter, I felt relief and didn't cry until my 17 yr old son tells me, "Don't worry mom, you did 40 years without him, you can do 40 more. We love you and that's all that matters."

My husband's parents have been married for years and I felt so ashamed to show him the letter. He was supportative of my search and is shocked by the ending.

I'm grateful that I have my husband and two children! Finding my other half and filling an unknown void was VERY important to me.

He may never play a part in your life and it may be just as well.

Now, however, you can do a genealogical search using the information you have on him. You might find it interesting to see who your ancestors were on that side of your family, how long they lived, what they did for a living, etc.

Who knows, maybe at some point, some other more compassionate relative will come forward.
