Hello; I am a native NM, but now living in Kerrville, Texas. I recently found out that my dad had another daughter, older than I am. I have tried desperately to find her, and my understanding from another relative is that she kept in touch with my dad off and on through the years. She would have been born in Alamogordo, somewhere between 1956 and 1959 I believe and her first name is Kara, or Cara. I believe she was adopted by her mother's new husband, so I am lost for a last name. My father's last name was Garfield, but I don't know that she ever went by that name. My dad has passed and any relative who can help me is gone. I don't know what to try next.

The name Carol was much more popular back then. Just something to consider. If she stayed in the area where she was born, it might be worth looking on classmates for the possible graduating years and contacting people from the local schools in that area. If you are certain of her first name, then there probably wouldn't be as many with that name and you'd have a better chance of finding her, even if she didn't use the same last name as your dad. Good luck to you.

I am pretty much in the same situation as you. Have you tried the Facebook page, "PeopleSeekingPeople". It's free, and seems to have had some success. The only drawback is that anything you post on that page will appear as a post on your own page so all those who have permission to see your posts will see it.

Good luck to you. I'll be following your thread since your situation is so similar to mine. If only we could search birth certificates for that time period - and be able to search by father's name. However, I don't know that my dad's name is even listed on my half sister's birth certificate.
