Hahaha. It's easy, it only takes 20 seconds for me to login to my service. I am not "smart" about protecting my identity. I don't shred any bills, and throw everything in a public dumpster at my apartment complex. Yeah, I know, dumb. I guess that's why I am always checking my credit... to make sure that there are no surprises. About 10 years ago, I went through a divorce. He had opened a credit card in both our names without our knowledge. He moved to Korea and kept having all our bills for all credit cards forwarded there, and then wouldn't pay them. My credit was a mess. I spend about two years disputing, waiting for late payments to fall off, paying down balances, and saw my score regularly going up. It was kinda fun to see it change so much as my situation changed. I think it just created a habit for me.
Makes sense to me now. We have very different situations, which explains the differences in approach to checking our credit scores.
This is the first time I have ever heard of anyone checking a credit score once a week. What is the cause of this compulsiveness?
If you are waiting to purchase a home, it is beneficial to wait until your score jumps up to the next level. My interest rate dropped half a percent once my score jumped the 700 mark.
It pays to be compulsive when planning for a large loan.
