If you can't scratch together $6000, then don't buy a flatscreen. Seriously, no one is forcing you to act irresponsibly. Why should anyone have to give you an interest-free loan to buy unnecessary consumer goods?
It's not a perfect world, and people will continue to make financial mistakes. But they *are* mistakes. To refuse to hold up some kind of integrity standard sends a terrible message, and we will all suffer for it. Charge and default if you choose, but don't try to blame that choice on someone else, and don't try to convince yourself or anyone else that you are doing the noble thing.
(disclaimer: I am not talking about people who had an abrupt change in financial status due to personal hardship. This is only for only those who chose to take on loans without considering how they would pay them back; those who chose not to think about the future as they were having their wants satisfied. I lived without a TV for 2 years because I would have had to buy it on credit. The key phrase in that sentence is "I lived")
Paying the balance every month is not credit. In any real sense of the word, you have not borrowed.
If you do everything with the perfect logic and rationalization of Spraynard and myself, the world has no problem. But the world does have problems, because there are people who lack our perfect genius. The problems are not solved by sitting in your peaceful home and muttering "If only they . . .", because they don't.
If you are not interested in addressing the problems that exists in our society, your comments are not useful.
LOL often what happens is the person racks up 10k...pays back 3k....then defaults.
I honestly don't care though because morality in this case is completely moot.
Go ahead and default on your credit cards and "teach them a lesson" that's your right and it's their right to go after you for money, wreck your credit etc.
There is no right or wrong for either party.
I wish people would be adult enough to acknowledge their obligations instead of taking zero responsibility for their choices. People should just man-up and default if that's their position instead of blaming everybody for their spending.
If people can't take responsibility for their financial decisions then they are basically saying they are incompetant and should not be allowed to make their own choices.
The great majority of people honor their commitments, if they can, either because they are morally motivated to do so, or they recognize the potential consequences of not doing to.
I'd love to see where you got that stat...
What stat are you disputing? That most people honor their commitments? Or the reasons why they do?
Go and watch a self-service gas station for a while, and see how many people are not honoring their commitments. What do you think is the reason there are so few driveaways? Maybe because they are either a) honorable, or b) fearful of the consequences?
Those WHO cannot are not culppaple (spelling). Thoe who do not, as differentiated from those who cannot in the construction of your sentence, are dishonest, slovenly thieves.

I completely disagree. These issues are ever-present in human affairs, whether one is "religious" or not.

I completely agree. Lack of acceptance of personal responsibility is the root cause of much personal crisis for those with that persuasion.
This thread is rediculous and americans are too blind to see that 98% of us are slaves in this country except for the other 1% that are the "elite" and drive us and 1% that actually understand what is going on and live alternative lifestyles. Since when has the bank, utility companies, big box stores, oil companies etc. etc. ever been your friend? When's the last time they ever invited you over to their parties? When's the last time they ever gave you a Christmas present? A private bank runs this country and if you cannot grasp that you need to go do some research on the federal reserve bank. Why is everyone in this country paying $300,000 for a house that is 3 or 4 times bigger than you need? Why do you pay the utility company $200 a month for something that can be produced free and naturally from the earth? Why do you pay $50 to fill up your cars and trucks when there are multiple other ways to power your cars and trucks that are anywhere from free to at least 50% cheaper than gasoline? Why do you pay banks 25% interest for loans (that are fake money to them anyway, a bank loans out 9 times it's assets in the form of electronic or fake money, if you don't understand research it)to buy things that you don't need but only want. I could go on forever but that is enough examples. If you hear this and still decide to do all of those things then you are either an ignorant individual or just too stupid or stubborn to change. I never understand why people in this country routinely support banks and big businesses when they are in fact the ones shafting everyone on a daily basis. We have the ability to produce everything we need to live for everyone in this country, actually in this country, so why do we continually support products from foreign lands, notably china? What happened to caring for your fellow man and neighbor? Until more people in this country realize they are not as free as they think and wake up and change america will continue on a downward spiral. This country is(or was) the best country in the world because of it's people but it's time for it's people to change and now. I wish everyone and this country peace and success.

From a nation of personal responsibility to a nation that has an excuse for everything.
