My DH has something being reported incorrectly on his credit report.
We have spoken with the entity (creditor) involved and they have acknowledged that it is incorrect. They drafted a letter and sent it to
all of the credit reporting agencies and asked them to update the file
with the correct information.

My question is will the credit reporting agencies act with that letter
or do they need "the tape" updated and transmitted?

TIA

Nope- the letter will be just fine.

There are two ways you can correct erroneous info on a credit report; you can dispute directly with the CRAs (transunion, experian, equifax) or you can ask the credit grantor to correct the issue.

You picked the most direct method. All 3 bureaus should be corrected within the month, and actually if you disputed with one particular reporting agency, they should send you a corrected report for free.

Don't give it a second thought

Thanks!

In the letter from the creditor they requested that all 3 agencies send him an
updated report. Hopefully it will get updated, we have been trying to get this
fixed for several months.
