Yep , just go to Vegas and forget about all your worries..... I myself am digging in , far from the madding crowds , insulating my house and my life , for the day I can't do it anymore, or , the day I can't afford too. Keep it simple in your senior days and relish all the memories, that and a big pile of firewood will get us through the winter, one more year. ( Ebay helps too ). Its a jungle out there , in the fast lane, Living large.... I'LL leave that for guys Like I was was in my Forties and Fifties. Aw,... the times we had....they were golden !

remindes me of when i was a kid and everyone wanted to build bomb shelters.

nah, i was going to burn hiding from the big nuclear fireball under my wooden desk in school. ha ha ha.

can you believe it, they tried to protect us from a nuclear blast by sticking us under our desks made of wood. im glad we never had to find out how well that worked out for us.

I don't remember " duck and Cover"....I guess in Iowa we had not got the message yet, in the Fifties. Fire drills were the only excitement , except for the day my buddy brought a skunk to school.......

Naw , not that kinda thing at all, my house is almost all glass ,copper and steel, no wood inside or out. No door knobs ether, everything slides.... Its my vertical 900 foot long driveway that keeps the looky loos out.

I planned to retire at age 55.

That included getting completely
out of debt [including the house]
by that age.

55 came three years ago [right before
the bottom dropped out of the economy.]

I'm glad I retired three years ago as planned.

Otherwise I might now be too afraid to retire.

As it is... everything is fine.

Yup. Another possible advantage to 401k is some have guaranteed return funds that have yields higher than savings accounts or mms are getting these days, if they have a need for that asset class.
