Habitat and Dr's W/O Borders are on autopay. I give cash donations to local animal shelters if/when I run into them around town, usually a couple times a year at festivals and such. Twice a year I thin out what's in my kitchen cupboards and give food to a food pantry too.
I only give to local causes that are run by volunteers that distribute the items to the community. For example, I deliver a bunch of trash bags filled to the brim with toys and canned goods to a local center that distributes them to the needy during Christmas time.
I donate money to local people who have animal rescues and spay and neuter alley cats and take in kittens/cats and puppies/dogs and adopt them out.
I bring this up because as I do my 2010 taxes I actually realize while my support for charities is quite broad, it is not a lot of my income as a percentage.
Any thoughts about HOW much of your income to donate................ (open can of worms).
