Are you changing jobs? I thought every one did direct deposit.

Back in 2001-02, I worked for a small (less than 20 employees) company that didn't offer direct deposit. Every pay day, I'd have to go to a nearby branch of my bank and deposit my paycheck. Talk about inconvenient!

I think Direct deposit should be made a federal law. I'm on unemployment and have a part-time job, and neither of them have direct deposit. I have to wait for the mailman to bring my unemployment check, and I pick up the one for my part-time job. If I don't pick it up, it comes in the mail the next day.

Extremely inconvenient! There are still of lot of businesses that don't have direct deposit, though.

I would be changing jobs when I move, yes.

Our company has like 75 employees, so it's small. Yes, not having direct deposit is very inconvenient!

What about people who don't want direct deposit? They would be forced to have it, because it makes your life more convenient?

My company has the option of a paper check, but they mail it to you from NYC, Payday is on every other friday, They mail check out in Thursday nights mail, So you would get it days later, NYC might get it in Friday's mail, NYC metro area saturday, rest of US Monday or Tuesday ... depending on the mails.

Some business don't want to bother with direct deposit, and they use a payroll service. It's their prerogative to have it or not. I prefer it, but right now, I don't have a choice.

My last job was a small company with about 60 employees at the time yet they had direct deposit available to those of use who wanted it (of course, I signed up my first day). I asked the lady who did the payroll how the company was able to facilitate having everyone's paychecks direct deposited, and she said that QuickBooks (used for accounting and payroll) made it possible, which I found interesting.

When I moved to NM, a long time ago, and then back to MN, I was not wise. Granted it was a long time ago but if I had it to do all over again I would have gotten just enough bank drafts or cashier's checks from my old bank to open a new account and kept out some cash because my money was tied up for 10 days each time before my new bank account came into effect. What an inconvenience!
