Hello ... We are engaged and plan on getting married in 2011. BUT, we are wondering if there would be tax advantages to getting married this year so we can file together. I make approx 40k and he makes approx 65k. Any thoughts? Is it better to file jointly or single?? Thanks!

Seriously, the best suggestion is ask your tax person what they feel might be best.

If they let the current Bush tax cuts expire at the end of the year, we'll be back to the marriage penalty tax next year. Otherwise...

Now if only we had a crystal ball

depends on how much you make... if your in 2 different tax brackets then its not a good thing to be married. the lower earner gets sucked up to the higher earners tax bracket when the 2 incomes are added together.
