You only live once; might as well burn the paper and make it rain.

How about you try saving up a little and see how it makes you feel? You might be surprised.

I do save but for short terms goals and ambitions. If I want to eat out everyday I do so. How I look at it, if you're micromanaging your finances on a minute to minute basis you take the fun out of life. Heck, most of the retirement programs implemented are in fact just that, meant for retirement age folks. Life is too short and I'm too financially sound to be dreading and hoping for retirement to come around.

life is like fighting a war with all these different fronts going on at the same time. you need money for now, money for a house maybe, money for marriage ,money for retirement etc etc.

pull from any front to sure up another front and you may win the battle but ultimately in the end you will loose the war. you need to balance out your resourses as best you can.

I assure you I don't micromanage my finances. I have a general idea of how much we spend each month but the managing consists of looking thru the credit card and bank statement once per month to make sure nobody is ripping me off.

I agree 100%, micromanaging finances on a minute to minute basis would suck.

Why not just set up an automatic transfer of $50 a month to a mutual fund? Pretend it is a bill you have to pay. There are many that waive the min initial investment if you sign up for regular automatic buys.

They are meant to be used by non-retired folks during their earning years to accumulate wealth, then drawn from as needed during retirement.

^ How I look at it, I will be successful enough by the time I reach retirement; hell probably before that where money to me won't matter. I'm in the rat race but will depart around 40 or so. Even though one day I can afford a $1 million dollar house I have no aspirations of acquiring such. Yes, I will substantially benefit from placing money into a 401k and the likes but the thing is, I'd rather waste money now then later.

There are two types of people who show at wal-mart,: People that have to

Funny Pictures at WalMart

and

People that don't have to but are smart enough to realize sometimes it isn't a bad idea. (Incidentally, I bought seven pairs of pants for $35 at Salvation Army on Friday. Great pants; sometimes the tags are still on them.)
