This is a great calculator because you can add any pre-tax deductions that you make like 401k or Health Insurance and get the EXACT number your paycheck will net out to- just make sure you select the drop-down boxes for 2011 (the new tax %'s) and your state.

If you are salaried, use this one:
PaycheckCity.com | Paycheck Calculator

If you are hourly, use this one:
PaycheckCity.com | Hourly Paycheck Calculator

What changed? I write my own paychecks (small company, I'm the only employee besides the owners) and haven't gotten notice there was any change yet.

Social security withholding is only 4.2% this year (2011 ONLY) vs the normal 6.2%. More info from Uncle Sam-->

Wow, yeah, I totally missed that one.

I see in the current "Employer's Tax Guide" (which only came this week), it has one sentence stating that it is 4.2% this year. I do see, however that it is on the "What's New" on the front cover. So I guess they expect that is how they let people at small businesses know about it, even though 1 to 3 pay periods were done by the time this got mailed out.

I looked back through my local paper's archives to see if I had missed a story, and there was absolutely nothing.

I also looked back through the tax newsletter that comes with some of our tax forms and found absolutely nothing.

Thanks for the heads up.

Well, Illinois just raised its income tax from 3% to 5%, so that's where the "savings" went.

My salary is pretty modest so I do notice the difference. I have increased the amount I'm putting in my emergency fund every month.
