Same here. I purchased a Sony Bravia flat screen 2 yrs ago. The TV started screwing up and I did some research online. I found out that Sony was aware of the problem and after much backlash offered to fix the TV's. It is neatly hidden on their website. I only found out about it because of forums like this. I called Sony and they said they were covering the 46 in. but not the 40, even though it was the exact same tv.

I called a repair place in my area and the guy told me that my tv was in fact built with a defective screen. A 2,000 dollar repair! Obviously not worth getting fixed. He suggested I call Sony again because he knows the 40 in. tv's are bad. Sony finally offered me a deal, well they seem to think so. At first the CS rep made it sound like Sony was going to give me a voucher of 480 dollars to go buy a new tv. What it was actually is they would sell me a new tv for a discounted price of 480 dollars. I was confused at first because I paid 2500 for the tv and Sony claimed they were deeply discounting a new tv of the same value of my current one. All for the bargain basement price of 480 bucks. I said I would think about it. I researched the model number and found many stores selling the tv between 500-580 bucks! So basically Sony was offering me a deal where I would buy another tv from them for retail. What a bunch of sheet.

For Christmas, my son received a "Lifetime" membership to an online game through them, and some 'bonus packs' for the game. We're broke right now and that game was his 'thing'. Due to this bs, he can't play it 'until further notice'.

People suck. I don't get why everyone is pissed at Sony (the 'victim' of this). I suppose those who are complaining would be happier if Sony didn't shut down and just allowed the criminals full access to all their current files (and credit cards, logins, etc).

Whoa!

That sounds like Sony didn't bother to encrypt the customer passwords in their database. If so, that's against current best practices and makes me wonder what else Sony was lazy about regarding security.
