you keep saying that but its not fact. our insurance is now higher than ever if your a family. it jumped 30-50% in many companies. including my own. 15k a year for health insurance this year...its absurd.
its all because family rates were raised drastically to cover kids until 26. not all plans offer only husband and wife...
My insurance has not gone up. Its just for me though. Are we talking about employer based insurance?
I pay $80 a month pre-taxed for full coverage PPO.

are you husband and wife? single rates are fine, its couple thats crazy....
our rate for a 2500 individual/5k family deductable was 90 bucks a week.
its now almost 190 a week for family plus you need to fund the hsa with up to 7200 bucks.
dont compare a single rate to what it was raised to for husband and wife. in fact wait until policies renew in january. most people arent even aware of this huge increase yet as with few exceptions mine being one of them most policies run from jan to december so your still on the old price structure.
I think my husband has about $150-$160 pretax held out each month for insurance for the two of us, which I think is really good, considering it has low deductible, prescription coverage, dental, vision, wellness visits, life insurance, and I'm not sure what else.
Actually, I get enough back from prescription refunds (up to $1000 per year) and savings at doctors, that the insurance almost pays us to have it. We pay around $1800/year, and save $1000 on prescriptions (finally, an insurance plan that covers birth control, which is about $1000/year), so if we save $800 between us on everything else, that insurance is free. When you figure 2 trips each to the dentist save us $100+ each, and annual wellness exams add another couple hundred, and then we each saved a ton on new glasses this year ($500+). I'm pretty sure that having this insurance PAID US over $300 this year, and that is with both of us totally healthy.
But I've been all over the board with insurance in my life. Growing up, my parents were self employed, so I got used to my mom just paying out of pocket for medical, except for catastrophies. My first adult job was at a major chain, and I only paid $50/month for really good insurance (12 years ago). Then I went to work for my parents, who are still self employed and it is a tiny company so no benefits. So my benefits have varied with my husband's work. About half of my married life, we've had catastrophic only. So $5000 deductible, with us paying pretty much everything, no dental, no vision. I've never hit that deductible, so I paid everything in those years. On the upside, I did get to write off the premiums on my state tax return.
So I've gone from catastrophic only, to really good, back to catastrophic, back to moderately good, back to catastropic, and now back to really good. Last time we had the catastrophic only, it was $275/month. So our current insurance costs just over half as much for infinitely better coverage. It sucks to not have insurance available on a group plan.

I am Single and I also use the FSA card to save taxes. If you are married then most likely you have 2x income.
Do you work for a large corp? Who is your insurance? In 2005 my insurance was only $28 a month but now its $80 a month.
About 270 employees...AvMed insurance. $80 a month is a steal. Of course, it depends on the insurance. I pay a lot, but it's great insurance. I have had numerous surgeries in the last 2 years - my only co-pay is $250.00 for hospital admission. Everything else is covered 100%.
