We did it several years ago and never had any issues. Also, I lifted the freeze when I refinanced and that also wasn't an issue. The one thing that did concern me were employment background checks. I applied for a position that required a credit and background investigation. I simply told the company about the freeze and offered to lift the freeze for the investigation; but they claimed it wasn't an issue.

Do it. It's the only way to protect yourself. There isn't a downside to it, unless thawing out your credit to borrow money is a hassle. In your case it doesn't seem to apply.

I also got identity theft about three months ago. They got my gmail account and password. Tons of personal information in there EVEN MY PERSONAL TAX RETURN since I filed online. To say the least they have ALL of my personal information. Name, DOB, social etc. To make matters worse they also got my paypal username password. Cleared my account empty - 10k gone. I used the account for my business. However I was able to recover the money since I contacted paypal within 24hours of the breach and they got all my money back.

I got the credit freeze as well - its a must when you get identity theft and it was a no brainer for me. Only have one credit card (never use it, 0$ balance). I pay everything in cash - car, house etc. SO I just freeze my credit and no worries anymore.
