It's free on TurboTax if you have what they call EZ file, so if you only put income, take out standard deduction then it's free.

Yes, you definitely need to update it each year. If you don't, you won't be able to e-file, but more importantly, you won't have the updated tax laws. I've been using TurboTax for 10 years. I've also tried other programs just to compare and always found that TurboTax worked the best and was the easiest to use. MOD CUT

Is the 2013 Turbo up to date w/all the recent changes?
Is there a better option of tax kits to use?

We just do it on the turbo tax website. Has all the updates ready to go. Sure you pay for it, but if your buying new software every year....does it mater?

You can purchase the program a few months ahead of time, but it will always prompt you to update that year's version online (before you file), to incorporate all of the latest tax codes since the program was produced.
