My TV died and I have to purchase a new one in 3 days which was not part of the June Financial situation. So when I but the TV on saturday does it make more sense to but it with my Credit Card and let my EF account continue growing?

Or go but it out of the money in my EF account which will make the account lower?

Or should I do a split purchase and charge half to the CC and the other half to the EF Account?

Assuming that those are your two only options:

1) What is the capacity of your EF account? (in terms of percentage -- is it at capacity or below)
2) What is the interest rate on your CC?
3) Are there any CC benefits that add value to the purchase?

For example, many CC's have extended warranties free of charge. Some have cashback, etc.

How the heck does a tv qualify as an emergency?

I would save up until I had enough money to buy it. Then buy it.

Amen.... "emergency" is things like unexpected dental work (had a crown fail that shouldnt' have), car repairs, travel for a funeral, etc (IMO)

You HAVE to?
In THREE days?

I agree w/ stan4... a television purchase is NOT an emergency.

And a TV is something important which is why I'm buying a new one. Who lives in a house with no TV?

Someone who can't buy one without depleting his emergency account or using credit.

If I recall you are on staff of a TV station on the sports Dept, That would make his TV work related, since he need to be on top of the sports to report on it.

How much money do you have in your EF/Savings? What is the rate on our CC? (Any side benifits). Is the new tv going to increase your monthly cost (Need HD cable/Sat now)?
