I have a small number of stocks from a company I used to work for. I have the paper certificates. I want to sell this. Who/where do I need to go in order to do this?
Provided that these are companies that are traded regularly on an established exchange, just about any brokerage will allow you to set up an account and deposit paper certificates with them. If you have a discount brokerage office where you live (schwab, fidelity, etc) you can walk in to the office with your certificates. You will need to fill out some paperwork to put the certificates in "street name". Within a couple of days, they will be credited to your account you can sell at your leisure online.
If you don't have a discount brokerage office where you live, you can still use them, but you'll need to mail the certificates and paperwork to a processing office. The paperwork usually involves getting notarized signatures. Otherwise, find a local broker (like an Edward Jones or AG Edwards office), but the brokerage fees will likely be higher.
