I spend about half of what I make on housing...which leaves me with a roof over my head and not much else...but the rule of thumb must be...The roof comes first ....the rest will work out...Those who do not have this in order will suffer the consequences.
Some of these numbers seem suspiciously low. It would create a better picture if the take home pay and the house payment were posted. For example, if a single person netted $2000 per month, his or her rent would have to be $400 per month to yield 20%. That hardly pays for a parking spot in NYC.
