Hmm. Sounds like a thesis or an advertisement coming down the Pike.

No not an ad.. Just research. I want to market financial products to women so I want to understand what their wants and needs are. Something I noticed is there are more single women with kids and more women in the work force period. Women in general live longer than men. The days of secure guaranteed employment or retirement are over. Etc.

So I would just like to know the general financial concerns of women. No one will be solicited in any way shape or form.

My financial concerns are plain and simple save enough money to buy and fully own a house so that I can get out of this renting B.S. In order to do that A) the economy needs to improve a little B) husband might have to think about taking a job out of the country and C) I will be looking for a job once my kids are 5 and in full time schooling (daycare for two kids under 5 here will take more than 50% of a pay cheque).

"Women" is a broad category! We have a lot of diversity!
I am personally concerned with paying for my education (one year left of school), my current medical expenses, and for the future, definitely retirement. I plan on living a long time and I would like to retire well, enjoy life a little.

Enough to pay a housekeeper once a week. This bringing home the bacon, frying it up in the pan and still having the energy to not let him forget he's a man is exhausting. Calgon take me away!

Big difference between women with husband (not boyfriend), women with kids, with/without husband, and childfree married women and childfree single women. (I'm the latter). I have the "usual" concerns about retirement, not becoming a bag lady, and how to afford help or assisted living when/if the time comes. Nothing exotic there.

I don't think women have any different financial concerns than men. But some situations that trend for women: many women have lower paid jobs; with 50% of marriages ending in divorce -- and in the majority of couples with kids the mother gets custody. So, less income and more solo decision-making regarding children are issues common to single mothers.

So is it safe to say women in general are more concerned about financial security rather than acquiring wealth? Has anyone ever seen any first hand experience of a drastic lifestyle change due to the death or disability of a spouse?

Thanks for the inputs?
