Default Where do you hide your money?

Guess where the burglars are going to look first?

Quote:
4/13: Forget the Mattress! More than One in Four Americans

According to the Marist Poll: More than one in four Americans — 27% — reports they hide their money in the freezer. 19% of residents “sock” their green away while 11% sleep well at night with their cash stuffed under their mattress. One in ten — 10% — buries their dough in the cookie jar while 9% leave their loot in some other household location. 17% say there is no good place in the home to hide their money, and 7% are unsure.

Looking at age, Americans 45 and older — 21% — are more than two times as likely than younger Americans — 10% — to report there is no good place in the home to hide money.

For both women — 28% — and men — 25%, the freezer is the most popular place in the home to keep their money safe.

The only money I have that is not in the bank is in my wallet. And that amount is usually around $100 at most.

Inside the roll of aluminum foil in the drawer under the oven, with a few boxes of saran wrap and a bunch of grungy cookie sheets. No burglar would ever look there, would never steal foil if he did, and it would be fairly well protected in most fires.

A companion question would be, "Do you keep enough money at home that you need to think about where to hide it?" And if the answer is "yes" then I would wonder why. ATM's are accessible 24/7/365 and are all over the place. Of course ATM's do not operate without electricity, so in the event of earthquake, hurricane, and the like, it is wise to keep a bit of cash around. But anyone who keeps over, say, $500, I would wonder why.

I was just thinking the other day how I have nothing to steal in my house- no upgraded electronics (would love to see a burglar dragging my 8-year-old iMac down the street) no jewelry, no cash stash.
Of course, with six dogs, I have a fighting chance of quite a racket if anyone approached the house, and no one has to know that they're all seniors- and the one with deepest bark has no teeth.

Burglars know about the freezer. That's one of the first places they look.

My late brother once had a heroin addiction and burglarized houses to support it. He said a lot of people keep their money in a bible, a lot of people tape their money underneath dresser drawers, and a lot of people hide money in the freezer. Burglars are going to look in these places right away.

He also said he was astonished at how much cash and expensive jewelry people keep lying around their homes. He used as an example our next door neighbors (the theft which got him busted and into rehab), whom he said had hundreds of dollars in cash just lying in a dresser drawer along with a lot of expensive jewely. He took only $50 and one diamond ring because that's what he needed to get high for the next day or two, and he said, "They were lucky they were robbed by a friend!"

LOL, love the scary dogs--that's probably the best deterrent. I only have attack cats. One would probably meow loudly at an intruder. The others would hide.

If anyone ever breaks into my condo, I hope they have good skills for coping with disappointment. I have no expensive jewelry, my cash stash is a ceramic bowl filled with change on top of my dresser, I have one TV--32 inch store brand, a six-year-old desktop and a three-year-old laptop. I don't even have a microwave right now--it broke about two months ago and I've really had no need to replace it. Oh, and I have a thing that's got a turntable, CD player, and radio, made to look like an old-time radio. Kind of cool-looking, but not worth much.
