I paid $20,000 for my last car. Cash of course. That's about 1.87% of my weekly net income.

Just an average CDer here.

Around 2% so far. We bought a '94 Ranger that needed a new transmission. Spent $350 for the truck and $800 for the transmission. My husband and his brother are hopefully putting the new one in soon.

But we also have a new car that we bought earlier this year. It's closer to 30% but we chose it based on reliability so hopefully it will outlast its payments by quite a bit.

That poster was just pulling our leg and having some fun. Don't you recognize sarcasm when you read it?

I don't go by how much a percentage of income it was. I go by how much I'm willing to spend PERIOD. My 2006 Acura RSX was 23-thousand.

IF i had to buy now...well let's put it this way....
My DREAM car is (was) a BMW 318i which I don't think they even make anymore. Plus, at 52 I'm thinking about trying to retire early, NOT pay more for an engine, set of wheels, and protective covering -- than I need to spend. SO I'd LIKELY be more practical money-wise and get another small Acura (if they put them back in their ine-up at an affordable price for me....or a sporty Honda Civic hatchback coupe. (MAYbe but I doubt...a Subaru. I LOVE the LOOK of the Lexus sporty couple but can't bring myself to pay that much. That really would stretch me money-wise. Also LOVE the Dodge Caliber but it's a totaly different kind of car...being American and a crossover.....

I don't' think I could ever go back to what;s considered an American brand.
