Is that near Oakland? I grew up in South San Jose.

No, in San Francisco. I'd argue that Visitacion Valley or Hunter's Point is as bad as any neighborhood in Oakland.

San Francisco is very, very small land wise.

But even in high COL areas, most people don't have $1-$2 million. I think you're still comparing up to people who have more than you and not noticing those who have less.

You grew up in SJ and have never heard of those SF neighborhoods. Have you lived under a rock your whole life?

Yes, I know that most people don't have a seven figure net worth.

This may be a matter of semantics. I would call someone wealthy if he or she is able to stop working for an extended period (or even permanently) and maintain a modest lifestyle in that area with little financial hardship. In the Bay Area, a $1M does not go that far due to the cost of housing. At my age, it would not be easy to live off $1M for the next 30 years in San Francisco, given the cost of housing, the desire to put my kid through college, healthcare costs, etc.

Kinda silly to say that there are no bad neighborhoods in San Francisco when you aren't all that familiar with the city, no?
