Yup, that's exactly why this country is in so much trouble. If we got rid of all the overspenders and deadbeats our country would be perfect.
When you use credit, you are promising that you will pay it back according to the terms of your credit card agreement. If you decide not to pay it back, it's the same as going back on your word. When you make a promise and break it, word gets out and people stop trusting you. The same with credit--once you are irresponsible with your credit, word gets out (on your credit report) and banks will choose not to extend credit to you, or if they do, they will charge you a high interest rate and fees.

You ran up that debt so you should try to find a way to pay it back. IF you can not because of loss of job then thats another story. Maybe let them close you out, then they will make you a offer like 2500 to pay it all off or something.

Tired of living paycheck to paycheck? Get a 2nd job, deliver newspapers. Unless you are medically not able to work - you need to pay what you owe without complaining.
Many people have it worse and your complaining about $5,000 debt.
Think about it, $5,000 isn't enough to file bankruptcy. Seriously.

With credit card debt, you're dealing with sharks. You're dealing with companies that stack everything in their favor once you get in it, and they keep re-arranging things and shuffling things around so you cant get out of it.
They play with...
-grace periods
-interest rates
-change terms at will
Insanity when you think about it. Everything is out of your hands, and they keep piling stuff on you once you're in it. But in the big scheme of things, $5 k isnt much. Its not enough to file bankruptcy for.

The irony in that is endless. I saw a news piece the other day and this lady who lost her home said Mortgage Brokers and Realtors should do the same thing :S

Can call the creditors snakes, sharks, jerks, or downright crooks if you want. But the fact is that no one forced your signature on the contract or a single purchase on that card.
As many on this thread have stated, you spent someone else's money with an obligation to pay it back on time, or pay interest for covering it. There are many legitimate reasons to dispute credit card charges, which become less legitimate every time some deadbeat raises a stink over their own bad habits.

Yeah, that usually happens with people who are too irresponsible with their money and decisions - they look for somebody else to blame for their troubles.

will the irony never stop? I swear (no kidding) I told a realtor friend who isn't doing so well right now the SAME THING. He was trying to talk up the govt bailing people out, hoping that will bring business back, I wasn't so sympathetic.
