I prefer cash back cards I think you can earn more back. I don't like many of the restrictions of the rewards cards and you have to pay more attention to what your buying.
None of the mileage cards are good over the long run, but nothing wrong with getting them and the introductory miles and canceling them before you pay an annual fee. Those are the best values because most cash back cards give you say $100 or less in signup incentives even to the best credit. These days most mileage cards are giving at least a $300 ticket for signing up and in a few cases like the United card you can get enough miles to buy a ticket to Latin America or Hawaii and those are worth $700+.
I use the Costco AMEX because I prefer the cash back. I just figured it would always be too difficult to schedule or make me feel obligated to travel at an inconvenient time if I got a travel rewards card.
