Well, clearly there are a BUNCH of people who need his help. He makes a very good living helping people with their financial struggles, and help many people find a path to financial independence. Yet he's a bad man for doing those things because it's common sense?
Common sense is anything but. All of the information is out there, but Dave has refined it into a program that is easy, quick and infinitely "doable". All you have to do is follow the directions and have a commitment, and you can become debt free.
If people could do it themselves, then they would DO IT THEMSELVES. There is nothing wrong with someone helping, in my opinion.
Has anyone here taken the counselor course? I'd like to ask you a few questions about it if so. Please let me know either on this thread or via DM. Thank you.

We are not counselors but have followed and currently follow his program perhaps I can help or guide you to the proper area to get the answer to your question.
I am not a Dave Ramsey fan at all. I think he is only worth listening to if you are bad with money. Otherwise everything he says is basically common sense.
There are some humans who just cannot handle finances without help no matter how intelligent they are or how much common sense they have. Money is a powerful drug and does control a lot of people instead of those people controlling money.

Thank you so much CSD610, that is very generous of you. Actually, however, I am wanting to take the course and open a financial counseling practice and I am trying to find out more about the actual training. Also, since I have not gone through the baby steps myself, I wonder if that would be acceptable if I wanted to be a counselor, or if they require you go through the program yourself first.
But again, thank you for being so kind and thoughtful. I appreciate it very much.

I don't think it is a requirement however, it is probably preferred for the "first hand experience". I am actually going to do the Counselor Training myself next year IF I can get my health stabilized enough to be physically to get through the full course.

I'm shooting for next July or August in Tennessee. Maybe we'll be classmates! That would be great. I'm going to take FPU in January so I will have a little better grasp of what is going on. I have listen to Dave for many years, so I feel pretty confident I will understand what is going on. But still, like you say...first hand experience, is always better.

This, this and this. I first stumbled on Ramsey's show about a year ago by accident ... he's on the AM station in Zanesville, Ohio, where my girlfriend lives, and I heard him one afternoon driving out there. At first I thought it sounded like a hokey show, but some time spent actually listening changed my mind. I listen to him at least a few times a week now. I like to think I am good with money, and I actually did complete a few of Ramsey's baby steps without knowing it before I listened to him.
He wouldn't be there if there wasn't a need, and there's definitely a need.

Money is not all about common sense, it is mostly behavior. Most people probably understand that "debt is dumb" but lifelong bad habits makes it difficult to execute a sound financial plan.
I have read the book "total money makeover" and it was the only book that got my attention about money. If you dont have any $$ behavior issues then you are probably not a Ramsey fan.
I dont cook so I am not a big Rachel Ray fan......Get it?

I have no financial problems as my grandparents pretty much gave us the same spiel that Dave Ramsey does ad nauseum.
I find his show to be interesting.
I think that his debt reduction ideas are pretty accurate. His investment ideas are far too optomistic
