Legalzoom.com?
Not sure exactly what this should be posted under but I thought I'd try here because its a business. Has anyone used legalzoom.com? I've heard it advertised on talk radio all the time and thought about checking it out. My husband and I really need to sit down and do a will. We have a 2 year old daughter and we dont have anything in writing right now. I want to make sure she's covered if something drastic happened. Just wondering if we should go to a lawyer and if so, how much is the cost? I know legalzoom charges a fee but its alot less than a lawyer's fee.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Yes, I have used legalzoom.com, as has a good friend. I started up a small business with their help for incorporation, etc., and she started up a non-profit foundation. We both had very good experiences, and felt that they were reasonably priced.

I am currently using LegalZoom for incorporation of a non-prrofit. They surprised me in that they actually call you to give you updates (instead of you calling them). I don't know...I don't have any complaints so far.

It's worth talking to an estate planning attorney about, I can tell you that much. I just don't trust these "insta-will" places.
I truly don't think someone should place their daughter's well-being in any service with the adjective "zoom".

Uh-oh....I guess I spoke to soon. I did end up having problems with LegalZoom in that the incorporation papers were noted as "finished" on the website however I did not actually receive them until weeks later. Also, when I would call to ask for a status (and try to talk to the same person), it would be like starting from square one. Then they sent the papers to the wrong address and insisted I had them already.
Anyway it was (is?) a very good idea, but they are either overwhelmed or under-staffed. Nevertheless, it got a little frustrating towards the end....
Oh, and it's still not over because they still have yet to get back to me on filing the EIN....but that's a whole different story!

One of my friends just did LLC via Legalzoom.
It cost him ~ 3X what my very cheap lawyer did mine for. ($1500 vs $500)
Both were very similar and used expedited paperwork so not sure of the benefit.
In the case of living will / trust / custody agreements I would consider a well versed lawyer in state law (tho not required) Our wills were ~ $500 and living trust ~ $1500 several yrs ago. I appreciated the advice we got from someone who had been through many family / custody battles. This is a pretty important thing and I feel good advice is as important as the document (which you want bullet proof) You can get advice in many ways, but... I would pay for the first one (with several referrals) and then modify it as necessary. I breathed a sigh of relief when the kids were of legal age, but great advice from Living Trust attorney was to make several timed distributions even when kids get older, (20-50) as they might get a 'gold-mining' spouse and poof, it's gone. And to have 'advisers' for them in their 20's in handling distributions.
