That's what you think. Their high service charges are used to cover their cost of doing business, including postage costs. If their postage costs go up, they will find a way to make you pay it. It will not come out of the pockets of the bank owners or shareholders.

Banks always have a ton of rolled coins, local businesses depend on the bank to stock their register every morning. Businesses give out more coins in change than they take in every day. Stores will not sell you many coins, except maybe a dollar's worth for a parking meter or phone, they have to go to the bank to get them, and often run out.

There's a laundromat a couple blocks from my house that has a $10 bill changer. If I ever need quarters, I can go over there and put a tenner in the slot. The copier at my library also has a bill changer, that takes ones and fives. You can put in a one, and press coin return, and get a dollar in change.

Or, you can hang out by the Coin-X machine at Walmart, and offer to buy coins from people who are approaching the machine, but I think it might be a long wait.

I worked for a small bank and we gladly sold anyone off the street a roll or two of coins. We did insist on a bank relationship for a business which made a habit of coming in for more than a couple rolls at a time.

We did not, however, mail receipts, because of the cost of postage. No way would a bank mail you coins.

Thanks!
I was wondering if, by "sold", you mean exchange?
Does one (not necessarily a bank holder) have to pay any fee for the exchange?

Yes, I meant exchange. As a small bank banker, I would look at it as a way to endear you to our company, and solicit your business.

Don't bother going to a BOA or Wells Fargo or other big ones. They will only use it as an excuse to offer their customary (non)service.

How much change do you need?
Your last thread was about 65cents to round out an occasional bus fare.

Come home ---> have bowl by door --> keys, wallet, change into bowl --> leave change in bowl until needed
