Thank you everyone.
Please continue to offer your thoughts.

It is interesting that Turbo Tax online website always estimates my tax return much greater given the exact same info I enter into other websites online tax calculators.

Do it both ways, print them both out and figure out where the differences are. They should be the same, but if they are not, you are either making a mistake on one of them or your accountant is leaving off some deductions. They should come up with the same amount. It will cost you the price of TT this year. But if you can come up with the same number as your accountant or figure out why they are different, you may be able to do them yourselves from next year forward and save yourself a lot of money in the long run.

I like it because it walks you through every. single. possible. deduction without the labor of reading and referencing/cross referencing 6 tax form pamphlets.

Plus, my return ends up being something like 100 pages, it's ridiculous. I couldn't imagine doing it any other way considering I'm too cheap to pay the good accountants.

NO QUESTION it helps me maximize my deductions more thoroughly than H&R Block. And that is from personal experience.
This. TurboTax simply catches more than any human who isn't intimately familiar with the tax code could. I have no plans to ever use another program. That said, I don't use them to file state. What they charge ($36.99) usually is a good chunk of my refund.

Every year, Turbo tax estimates my tax return much higher than anyone else.
So, my question to those of you who have used Turbo Tax or to those who just may know due to experience or by your related profession, do you in fact get a larger return using Turbo Tax?
Are there any issues that come back to you as a result of using Turbo Tax?

I am not trying to be greedy.
I could simply use the extra money this year.
I am curious how close TurboTax is to the returns prepared by your accountant

I used to use Lacerte when I worked in public accounting, now I simply use turbotax online. I help some friends with their returns and use a freefedtaxusa resource and as long as you have your information compiled properly, the refunds do not vary. After all, tax code is tax code and won't vary by software.

I've been using TurboTax for 10 years. I've also tried other programs just to compare and always found that TurboTax worked the best and was the easiest to use. [mod edit - 10 post to link]

Yeah but I'm using TaxCut this year because it is so much simpler. TT made me so mad that I flamed Intuit like there was no tomorrow. First, TurboTax free won't let you save your work unless you pay extra. Obviously this is a ploy as there is no other reason to do that.

But what really made me go through the roof was I went in to the free edition to see what the damage would be. Now I'm getting e-mail reminders that I never asked for telling me the price was going to go up so I should buy now. There was no way to unsub from the notifications and nothing I can do about it since I have a relationship with them because of Quicken.

So, like GoDaddy, they have good products but treat their customers awful with marketing especially upsales.
