Is it a prudent decision for someone with less than $1000 in the bank, $2000 owed on a loan, $12k in outstanding student loans to gift their mom $200 toward the purchase of a "water fountain" for the house?

Help Mom to pay a surprise dentist bill? Sure.

Prudent? Perhaps not. Your business? Definitely not.

Water fountains are usually exterior (but sometimes interior) decorative elements.
A Brita water filter would not be the same....

Are we talking about a display feature...perhaps with rocks around it and it usually leads to a small pond?

I assumed it was a water fountain like you would have in schools or something. You walk up to it and get a drink.

if this is a decision you are considering making, fine. but i find these posts where people ask questions to get other people to pile on someone they know's bad decision annoying. they may be 100% right in their criticism, but of course they are only giving it from their own side which has already negatively judged the person and leaving out any of the details that other person may give. stick to asking about your own financial issues or ask about others when you really dont know the answer or really want to provide assistance.
