I've been using BC for years and wouldn't put a penny in it now...

You do know what sort of products fuel the bitcoin market, right?

I find it funny that everyone I have spoken to that has recently been interested in and found out about bitcoin has no real idea as to why bitcoin was really started.

Most people believe it to be just a fad, that it was created so that there could be a currency system independent of the current markets, crazy stuff like that.

When in reality bitcoins, while not exclusively created for, are primarily used for purchasing illegal drugs online(silk road), though they have also been used to purchase firearms but this is not common, to give those purchasers anonimity and what better way than to create a anonymous currency free from manipulation of governments and the imf.

There's a bunch of places you can purchase bitcoin (which you can find by googling). I'm not sure which of them are the best or most secure. I would call a financial firm like Schwab and ask them where the best place would be to buy a lot.

If you just want a little bit, you can get them for free:

It's fun in the meantime.

For anyone who wants to try it out, there's plenty of websites ("faucets") giving small amounts of bitcoin away for free:

(First you have to set up a bitcoin wallet which doesn't require any personal information: https://blockchain.info/wallet/new Then use that wallet address to request bitcoins. I think this works because the websites get paid for advertising when people visit them.)
