Back in November of 2006, there was a $4,300 payment to my Bank of America credit card that was apparently posted to my account in error by the bank. This payment was made by telephone, do there was no clear way to trace back the error. I watched my statement for a few months to see if it was corrected, but nothing happened.

Back in July or August, I ended up cancelling that credit card and have closed all of my accounts with Bank of America. Today, I received a notice in the mail from B of A that they have found the error and are correcting the error by removing the credit to my account.

My question is, can they even do this? It's 11 months after the fact, and my account has been closed for a couple of months. What are my options?

Thanks to anyone who has advice on this.

What would make you think someone elses money was yours to keep....You were aware of the original error.

Of course they can do this, they run the books and are correcting an error. If it was costing you money you could as for compensation but in this case it sounds like you are trying to keep funds that are not yours. What is the beef?

Of course they can do it - no question about it. You knowingly attempted to keep them money by closing the account not paying what rightfully was yours - isn't that sound a little like stealing. It was not yours for the taking.
