It's overly complicated and will no doubt cause all sorts of problems for people until more logic is applied.

Also little known is that subsidies (but not premiums) vary by zip code, it appears that moving to a poorer zip code will get you a larger subsidy.

So the richer your zip code the more you pay after the subsidy.

I haven't seen any indication of that anywhere. The subsidy appears to be based on a ratio of income to federal poverty level, which would vary by family size but not by zip code. If you have more specific information I'd love to see it.

I was wrong...last week I was playing around with the Kaiser subsidy calculator and just tried it again...found your after-subsidy premium is based on your income...and the unsubsidized premium (and therefore also the subsidy) vary by zip code...and apparently the zip code variation is really a county variation.

So I guess if you don't get a subsidy, more to a poorer county for a lower premium.
