You aren't going to get much sympathy here from the Boomer crowd that can't understand why youngsters can't work their way through college anymore, you know, considering tuition is 2k/year like it was during their time. Try another forum.
Thanks. I've noticed this problem with the boomers. Totally unrealistic in the secured jobs that young people are paying for through much lower wages and loss of benefits.
I've posted in a different forum and the response has been remarkably different than the one here. Most young people understand or suffer this problem. To the boomers, they must be all "trolls".
No. Good parents teach their kids to be responsible, not to be slacker leaches. "True love" by a parent would be tough love, kicking the slacker leach out to learn to live on their own.
If I remember, out of all the crap that you'd posted ... while you were out of the country you had a job. You have a job now. You own things, unless you go to work naked .... no, you're not completely insolvent. Your claim to the IRS of being completely insolvent would be a lie.
Even if they don't yet send a 1099c, the debt is still well within SOL (because of Tolling) - the CA can wait.
Good luck trying to either get or keep an oilfield job. Those types of jobs are hard and dangerous jobs, not suitable for slackers like you. Yeah you might show a little bit of initiative when you first get the job but it probably won't take long for your true nature to start shining through - they won't want to keep you on the job at that point because you would endanger not only yourself but the other workers.
HAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah, I "own" 4 suits. Will they take the suits? This is ridiculous. I do NOT own anything REMOTELY meaniingful for the IRS or valuable to creditors.
Yep, worked in Europe UNDER A DIFFERENT nationality and no creditor knows that in the US. So nope, can't do. I do have a job now so at most they can garnish my wages. Nothing else.
As for the 1099, you don't have to be "completely" insolvent according to IRS rules. And considering that my ASSETS (which is what the IRS looks at) are ZERO , they won't be sending any form, believe me.
Your tough talk is outdated and totally irrelevant to the real needs and culture of today. "Tough love" is not love at all -- it is toughness and nastiness. You'll find the worst criminal offenders come from "tough love" homes that kicked them out.

Most people know people with debt. Most people have debt.
What "most people" don't understand is people like you who laugh at, boast about and scoff at the concept of paying back their debt.
Hmm, not a boomer here. In fact, I'm probably around the same age as the OP. Unlike the OP, however, I don't think it's okay to borrow a ton of money and then refuse to pay it back. The OP acts like that's something to be admired.
The OP seems to take some bizarre sense of pride in being a deadbeat who completely wasted an ivy league education and won't repay his debts, and acts like the rest of us are a bunch of suckers for not taking a bunch of other people's money.
You're a tool then. If you think being a debt slave is "admirable", you're a tool. I'd rather be a free man.

There's always other ways of making money than just your day job: side job, second job, trading/investing, etc. However, since you aren't filing tax returns, the investing thing is out, preventing you from using those math skills. How are you paying your bills? Surely not with a credit card in your name? I also would caution how and how much you get your parents involved, as you shouldn't want to make them complicit if they tried to charge you with anything criminal.
Nice try to trick me budgetlord, but I would NEVER reveal anything remotely correct about my gender identity on a forum. Man or woman, it doesn't really matter what my gender is. Why do you want to know? You're whle post is based on stereotypes. Tons of guys in Europe live at home with mom and dad and aren't "maverick" "tough guys" "rugged individualist types". Get a clue.
I don't pay any bills and nothing is under my name. I don't have ANY credit cards at all and quite happy without them.
They can't charge me with anything "criminal" since no crime has or will be committed. As I've said before, owing debt is NOT criminal unless it's federal debt and that doesn't apply to me.
Oh and side note: there are several paralegals in my office, and there are both men and women paralegals. Your stereotypes need to be updated.

Oh no, I'm sorry it comes across that way to people. No, I don't scoff at paying back debt. I scoff at how there are so many UNrealistic people who think a 200K debt can be paid off with a crap paying job and no prospects for improvement in this economy. That's all. If I became a millionaire tomorrow, I'd pay the debt in full.

Did I say that they would "take" them, nope ... but what you have does count, even if it's suits, books, dvds, etc.

It doesn't matter where you worked, the fact is that you were employed and you could have made an attempt to pay. You were NOT as insolvent as you claim and if you try to hide that income, even though it was in a different country, you'll be lying to the IRS.

Yes I can see where a lazy leach would make that comment.

Provide proof to that statement.

So ... what was your plan when you agreed to take out the loans?

Yeah right. I seriously doubt you posted in a different forum, with the same info that you posted on this one, and received different responses (like responders are going to say "you poor thing" after you say that you owe but you WON'T pay it back) ...... do your lies ever stop?

Someone in this thread had made a comment that the OP couldn't keep his lies straight .. that person should be repped by all, as it appears that person was completely correct.
