I got a call from my credit card company's fraud detection department about an unauthorized charge on my card, so my card number has clearly been compromised.

They want to cancel my account and open a new account. How does this impact my credit score? They definitely made it sound like it was a new account and not just a new credit card number under the old account.

Will the new account show a start date of 2013 or will it adopt the start date of the account being closed? The person I spoke with didn't understand my question, so I figured I'd ask here as I'm sure some people have been through this.

It won't change anything. They are just issuing you a card with a different number. This has happened several times over the years with my Discover, nothing changed but the card number.

You're right. I called in again and spoke to someone different and they confirmed it's just a new card number. Account stays the same.
