I would like to live with as little expense as the OP.
But I will still work regularly.

so life on 9 bucks an hour is not exactly comfortable then. living under the bridge if you can not work is not exactly a stress free plan.

The majority of Americans are one accident or health problem away from total financial disaster. I can't see how I'm much different.

yep, and that is why I say nothing is ever a stress or a problem if you can fix it with money.

few have enough money to make major issues go away but those that have the money to deal with life's zingers like the hot water heater or major car repair can at least not be stressed by those things.

those with some money can have insurance against major things too.

I rather deal with my stresses that I have in my life than the stress of living hand to mouth and having anxiety over every expense.

my family lived like that and I would never want to go through that again.

The person in question is willing to live NOW. To enjoy his free time. He is sacrificing a retirement so he doesn't have to work 40 plus hours and deal with the stress of a higher paying job.

Not everyone wants to live like you...get over it.

I sort of agree with the OPS premise. Once you reach retreiment age (67-70) you're already tired and beat up and can't do much. I know a guy who had to retire at 62 because he got bad knee arthritis. It's best to travel and experience life while you are young and able.
