I'm filing my 2012 Federal Income Taxes and just realized that I only have photocopies of my W-2 forms and have misplaced the originals.
Are photocopies OK to mail in with my tax forms?
To make matters worse I now need to quickly file the 2012 taxes as they are holding up a loan.
I thought that I could e-file on Turbo Tax but they stop doing e-filing in October.

Also, does anyone know how long it takes for the IRS to process a paper form at this time of year?

(Don't yell at me for filing so late, I asked for an extension before April 15 and am getting a refund. If you knew my nightmare of a year you would start crying. If this is the incorrect forum to place this thread please move to correct forum. Thanks.)

I don't see why not. Many companies don't even provide paper W-2s anymore, employees just download and print them at home. As long as the numbers match what's in the IRS computers, you'll be fine.

Where are you getting the photocopies if you don't have the originals?

At some point between when I received them in January 2013 and now I must have made photocopies of them and never realized that I had not returned them to the tax folder. Thanks.

Copies are fine... I once lost paperwork and actually drew a W2 on a blank sheet of paper but since all the numbers were right there was no problem.

In todays world of electronic returns the paper does not mean much as long as the numbers match what the employer submitted.

That's funny--your drawn W-2 is probably hanging on the wall of some IRS employee's office

I've used photocopies with no problem, got them from my employer. Then I started making my own photocopies as soon as I got my W-2 forms, just in case I lost or misplaced the originals.

The drone processing your tax return needs SOME DOCUMENT from which to enter numbers; photocopues serve that purpose as well as originals.
