What can I claim on my taxes if I am a full time student with a federal work study job part time.

--Driving to and from work? Gas?
--Books?
--Tablets?

I ask because I see conflicting reports on many different websites and don't know what I can claim if my parents can claim my tuition

If they are claiming you as a dependent, you can't really claim anything. Expenses for course-related books, supplies, and equipment are deductible of paid directly to the institution, if you paid those, but you would need the receipts as proof in case of an audit. Commuting expense for school or work are not tax deductible.
If you bought a tablet at Best Buy or the Apple Store it's not deductible.

Most likely, you will receive a refund of all of your taxes paid, regardless of any special deductions.

In a federal work study position, he doesn't pay any taxes income taxes.

If it's federal, it's probably with the Department of Veteran Affairs, which means he's in charge of signing up vets for benefits.

If that's the case, and he's not a current reservist or a veteran, I have no idea how the institution could not find veteran or reservist suitable for the position.

You cannot claim costs for books if you do not claim the tuition as well.

Maybe medical expenses, if they are excessive... charitable donations? Clothing bought for work?

Most college students that are dependents of their parents are not going to have enough to itemize and if they did, they wouldn't be a dependent on their parents' taxes.

If your parents claim your tuition, etc. they are already taking the various education credits allowed. It's an either/or situation and it's likely that it's in your parent's best interest to claim you unless you don't live with them in the summers and you are paying 100% of your own schooling.

You shouldn't even be doing itemized taxes IMO, in your income bracket you will get much more from the standard deduction, even if you could deduct the things you mentioned, they wouldn't come close to the standard deduction. Just do a 1040 EZ and be done with it.
