My mother had bought universal life insurance (which I hate) and cannot leave until 2024 or be subject to a surrender charge. I notice that my life insurance company (Lincoln Benefit) has been sold to Resolution Life Holdings by Allstate. Is this an ominous sign? Should I take the loss and get out?

Are you saying this was your mom's policy, and she has passed and you are the beneficiary? Or is this a policy that she bought for you?

She bought the policy for me... I feel bad for her because her friend sold her this policy which was horrible... so I took over the policy because I didn't want her to waste her money on the useless policy...

How much is the premium, what is the cash value, what is the value of the death benefit, and how much is this "surrender charge" you speak of?

I have not used, but heard good things about this service. They evaluate your specific policy and can make recommendations on what to do.
