What I don't understand is why people bother working toward the second billion. I mean, you can really only spend so much money. Give me 5 million and I'd quit my job, find some meaningful p/t volunteer work, and be happy for the rest of my life.

I started out as a chemical engineering major in college. My best friend stole my idea and my girlfriend. I then went on to teaching high school chemistry. After a few years of teaching, I contracted cancer. I said " Oh hell," it's time to make some real money and invested in a car wash. Over the years life got interesting and profitable.

I had a billion, but I spent it all in one place.

This thread just goes to show you any american with some gumption and a knackering of common sense can become a billionaire. When I worked at Dairy Queen as a teenager I was known as the kid who could make the town's best Mr. Misty Freeze. I must have sold 80 of them every summer. Every so often the local Ford dealer would tip me a nickel. His favorite flavor was lemon lime. I put all those nickels into an interest bearing savings account. Then later on I married my wife who is the sister of the guy who owns Facebook.

Did you marry for love, or for the love of money?

How old were you when you saved your first $1 Billion in total assets and how did you do it?

I set up a lemonade stand on my front lawn when I was 8 and then Carl Icahn and Warren Buffet got into a bidding war over my business. After I sold my company, I just saved by living below my means, and slow and steady investing, mostly in stocks.
I never thought I'd see so many replies to an obviously silly thread!

What did you expect? Silly replies to a silly thread. We need to lighten up from time to time.

Not silly, I just saved invested my first billion two years ago. I made it by convincing people to buy Gold as a cushion against armageddon. Told them their money was going to be worthless after you know who won again. It worked and I got folks to give me a Billion of their worthless money in exchange for my doomsday avoiding Gold. Dang and they fell for it. P.T would have been proud.
