For the first time in my life I feel like am on the up and up. I am making almost twice as much as I made just a few months ago with this new job. I enjoy the work and the pay and plan to stay with this for a long time (if not for my entire career).
To me, it depends on what you mean by "rich". If you mean rich by having a large house and 3 super cars and parties on yachts all the time then no, I will never be rich. I view life experiences, not material possessions, as making my life rich (money doesn't play the most important role in this for me).
Richer than 10 years ago, poorer than 4 years ago. My salary has remained stagnant for the last 4 years, health benefit contributions have gone up and inflation and higher prices have taken their toll. Where 4 years ago I had money left over at the end of the month, now I have to juggle payments to pay bills on time. I'm eligible to retire in a year, so I'll probably do so, collect my pension and find another job that pays what this one does so things hopefully will improve with the 2 income sources.
A New York Times article reports the typical family net worth has declined 36% in the past 10 years. Have you noticed a decline in your net worth in the past 10 years? Could this been a result of real estate or stock investments? Could it been caused by a change in your work status? Are you happy with your current financial situation?
no one really is typical. no one is average either. you have 1/2 the country not earning enough to pay income tax. they will always have no money and dilute those who do in these rediculious media articles.
no matter what the story ,if it involves not having money the numbers will always look dismal but it is always the same group with no money making the numbers look bad for everyone else.

Good reply.....I was going to give you an attaboy for the response but got a message that I have to spread it around. :-)
Have you noticed a decline in your net worth in the past 10 years? No. We are much better off.
Could this been a result of real estate or stock investments? Yes.
Could it been caused by a change in your work status? Yes -- we are self employed. No longer working for the peanuts other people choose to pay us.
Are you happy with your current financial situation? Oh -- HELL yeah.
