The argument still applies, because if lack of skin in the game makes the borrower less motivated to honor the obligation, that also puts the lender at risk, especially if the home goes down in value (or even remains the same, once RE commissions and foreclosure costs are accounted for).

Good point. The lender shouldn't take a big hit, at least in most areas the way prices are today.
