Yes, I had an account with Betterment for a time. They have a very user friendly approach and the fees are reasonable. Not rock bottom, but still pretty low. You choose your stock/bond ratio in increments of ten percent, and you are invested in a mix of broad market etfs with your very first dollar. There are no account minimums; you can open an account with any dollar amount and add new dollars of any amount.
They've only been around a few years, but they are a legitimate investing house. All in all, not a bad way to go.
Everyone recommending them seems to always be getting referrals and discounts. It always seems highly suspect.
Regardless, they just buy simple index funds. So why not save yourself the middle man and buy the funds yourself? I have Vanguard funds in both my 401(k) and my taxable Vanguard account. No need for a Betterment account.
i use vanguard. betterment i believe does automatic tax loss harvesting so that could be worth it if you don't do it on your own (or don't want to do it on your own).
for me, i like managing my finances so it's not worth it.
