Exactly. Next time they won't get the money put into an account or the 1/2 that was given to they outright.

That's what they get for looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Step back from your ultra-entitled alternate universe for a second.

If I give you $200 but give it to you in such a way that you don't actually get $14.25 of it, that doesn't mean I gave you -$14.25. It means I gave you $200 but due to fees along the way, you only got $185.75 of it.

Some (including me) might argue that the fee is too high, but that doesn't mean the company didn't give the employee anything.

Not sure how my alternate universe is super-entitled; the ONLY freebies I have ever received from an employer were Christmas fruit baskets (~$20) and free fountain drinks at a convenience store.

They really didn't if those fees are accurate. $16.25/quarter will wipe out the bonus in 4-5 years.

That is, of course, unless the horse, is the famous Mr Ed.

Why? It does not change the amount of the defined benefit.

True, but it can still be useful to know whether it is a good deal or a ripoff. It would also encourage employers to avoid plans that serve to excessively enrich the managers at the cost of the employees, as the disclosure would make that "look bad".

Unless the employer plans on adding future bonuses to it. If it's a low balance fee, perhaps the employer has already planned it out to bring the balance out of low balance territory after 2-3 years.

That's an awfully punitive and paternalistic way to treat employees for simply voicing their disapproval, unless they were especially rude or harassing about it. Almost seems tantamount to firing someone for asking for a raise. Why not simply say "No." and leave it at that?
